The Museo delle Culture has a Documentation Center since 2006, which consists of a public library located on the ground floor of the Heleneum and an archive situated on the third floor of the building.
The specialised library resources are available for museum researchers, esternal experts and any other people interested in the following areas of study.
The library’s fundamental core is the Paolo Morigi Book Fund which was bought by the City of Lugano in June 2006. The library now houses 20.000 volumes and magazines about Ethnic Art, Anthropology of Art and Cultural Anthropology and also contains many specialised magazines and ethnic art catalogues published by important auction houses.
The library often exchanges books with other anthropological museums, in order to present the museum’s activities and publications to an international public and to increase its own book fund.
The library is currently undergoing a cataloguing process. It is open to the public for consultation by appointment but book loans are only available for museum researchers and collaborators. The library catalogue is available online on the following website: here. The scientific staff of the museum can also offer the public a free documentary consultancy service on the main topics of its competence.
